US sunshine provisions: data collection deadline extended until Jan 2013 for Drug, device firms

The deadline for a transparency provision of the US healthcare reform legislation that requires drug and medical device companies to collect data on payments made to physicians and training hospitals has been extended to 1 January 20131.

Companies had originally been required to start collecting this data as of 1 January 2012 and to submit this information on 31 March 20132
